2024 in Review

In 2024, I went to the movies 22 times in the theater total, including two drive-ins. My highest total since 2017 (23)!

  • With the dads: 2
  • With the whole fam: 3
  • With just the boys: 3
  • With just H: 2
  • With just P: 3
  • With Emily: one date night (Conclave)
  • By myself: 8 - apparently some people rarely go to the movies alone? I feel bad for them. The only bad thing about it is not having someone to talk with about the movie afterwards.
  • At the Triplex: Ten times!
  • At the Mahaiwe: Three times
  • Sequels: 8
  • Animated: 6
  • Best new movie: Dune Book 2
  • Worst new movie: Gladiator 2
  • Also bad, but wasn't expecting more: The Garfield Movie
  • Tear-jerker: The Wild Robot
  • Best Chemistry: Timothee and Zendaya in Dune
  • Second-best Chemistry: Emily and Ryan in The Fall Guy
  • Sexy but scary: Love Lies Bleeding
  • Sexy but also funny: Drive-Away Dolls
  • More sex than I expected: Poor Things
  • I get it already, they're hot for each other: Challengers

A year ago, my goal for 2024 was to "go to The Triplex in Great Barrington as much as possible, to see movies for grown-ups on the big screen as much as I can", so how did I do? I went to the Triplex TEN times in 2024. Nice work, me. As far as movies for grown-ups, seven times I went to the movies to see movies for adults. That's progress!

I also continued to force myself to watch movies on video I'd never seen before: nineteen total in 2024, a mix of new Oscar nominees (The Holdovers, Maestro), dreck (Van Helsing), oldies (Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Paths Of Glory, Rocky), and streaming-only stuff (Jackpot, Unfrosted). It helped that I was in bed with COVID for a few days, and on an airplane for a few more of these.
