As discussed back in April, I had created a glut of playlists in early 2024, and a reset was necessary before I could continue. I spent the following five months with two parallel goals: listen to all 230 playlists in my Tidal account, spanning 30+ years of mix-taping to Tidal-ing. The second goal - harvest songs I liked and dump them in a big hopper, to prepare for a fresh restart of my playlist-making. By late August, I'd listened to all 230 playlists, and the hopper had over 600 tracks in it! The hopper consisted of classic rock and pop that I like that never made it onto a playlist before, new music from the last 5 years that I like, and every random song I came across, in, y'know, life. This month I put that playlist on Shuffle and listened. Every time two songs sounded good together, I wrote it down. It felt like learning to walk again!
