Overly long and episodic, but soaked in the realism that only a real WWII veteran-turned-filmmaker (Samuel Fuller) can provide. A small budget goes a long way. Mark Hamill still can't act, but Lee Marvin is perfect, and Robert Carradine (Revenge Of The Nerds) is believable. (Brattle Theater)
