"recorded February 9th - 21st, 1996"
For most of my playlist-compiling career, I did not consider a balance of men and women in my decision-making. As a result, only about 20% of the songs on my mixes were from women musicians. Only on this single playlist in 1996, and another in 2004, did I intentionally include women, and this one is only 50% women! Starting in 2020, I have been endeavoring to include 50% women on every playlist. This has forced me to listen to more women, both classics and new artists, and I am a more broad-minded listener (pun intended) because of it. Across those 37 playlists, my average has jumped to 47% women. Please, hold your applause.
